From 1 January 2020, the limit for sulphur in marine fuel used on vessels operating outside designated emission control areas was reduced to 0.5 %. This regulation by international maritime organization (IMO) is to significantly reduce the amount of sulphur oxides (SOx) discharged from ships and provide environmental advantages. EGCS (Exhaust Gas Cleaning System) is in the spotlight as an effective technology to reduce sulfur oxides emission. EGCS uses seawater and fresh water to effectively separate sulfur oxides from exhaust gases.

IMO Type B cargo containment system provides excellent protection from internal damage caused by sloshing due to built-in partition walls. In this regard, unlike other cargo containment system types, IMO Type B tank can be loaded to almost any level. In addition, the inside girders effectively protect the cargo against external impacts. Being resistant to external impacts and sloshing, Type B tank is mainly placed on the vessel's forward and aft.
