Green Energy Solution (GES) has successfully carried out maintenance work on the Ballast Water Management System (BWMS) installed in the GLOVIS BULK fleet.
BWMS is designed in various types, including Electrolysis
and UV (Ultra Violet) systems. The BWMS installed in the GLOVIS BULK fleet
operates on the Electrolysis system. This system generates Total Residual
Oxidants (TRO) as a disinfectant while seawater passes through the Electrolysis
unit before being taken into the ballast tank via the ballast pump.
The Electrolysis unit contains numerous electrodes,
consisting of anodes and cathodes. If not periodically maintained, these
electrodes can degrade, leading to reduced treatment efficiency, potential
penalties from Port State Control (PSC), and excessive power consumption that
negatively affects vessel operations.
To ensure optimal performance, GES conducted a comprehensive
health check of the BWMS, inspected the internal condition of the Electrolysis
unit, and performed cleaning as well as replacement of severely damaged
electrodes. This maintenance work allows for the stable and efficient operation
of the BWMS, ensuring compliance with regulations and smooth vessel operations.
